Our approach

What we actually do

Vanguard Systems delivers industrial energy integration projects in French-speaking Switzerland, from auditing to testing and commissioning.

We define metering and instrumentation, integrate data into EMS supervision or the existing SCADA, then prepare the control and automation changes agreed with your teams.

Work scope, required partners, documentation and operational follow-up are defined before implementation. Savings are verified against a documented baseline and production conditions.

Interior of a bright, modern factory

Connect energy, automation and maintenance in one project

New projects, revamping and retrofits for industrial sites and utilities in French-speaking Switzerland. Vanguard provides technical leadership and integration within the agreed scope.

  1. 01

    Assess and measure

Site assessment, available data, metering plan and specifications.

  2. 02

    Integrate and program

Instrumentation, control, PLCs, SCADA and EMS supervision.

  3. 03

    Test and commission

FAT/SAT as required by the project, backups, documentation and team handover.

  4. 04

    Monitor and maintain

Energy follow-up, preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnostics and agreed updates.

The quote defines deliverables, allocated capacity, testing and responsibilities. Panel building, specialist electrical work and mechanical work are assigned according to the project, with the required partners and authorisations. Maintenance terms are defined in the contract.

Acceptance can be followed by a mechanical, electrical and automation maintenance contract. Covered equipment, backups, visits and support terms are defined with operations. General service hours are 07:00 to 19:00 every day.

Reference from Tai Van’s career

Merck Serono · Corsier-sur-Vevey, canton of Vaud, French-speaking Switzerland

2023-2024

Tai Van led the project and carried out the integration, testing and documentation for HVAC control changes at the Merck Serono site in Corsier-sur-Vevey. The work covered operational analysis, control changes, deployment and documentation handover within the site's regulated environment. Result: more than 30% lower energy consumption for the air handling units.

This result concerns the air handling units in this assignment. It is not a savings commitment for another site.

Use case: industrial utilities energy audit
Record consumption, document production conditions and compare ventilation, cooling, compressed air, pumps and electrical uses. The deliverable separates immediate corrections, controlled trials and investments requiring further study.

Frequently asked questions

Can you deliver a complete energy integration, automation and maintenance project?

Yes, within a scope defined with you. The audit establishes energy uses, available data and missing measurements. We then prepare instrumentation and metering, PLC/SCADA or EMS integration, control changes, testing and commissioning. Documentation, results monitoring and maintenance can extend the project according to the contract. Each stage specifies deliverables, responsibilities and expected checks.

Who carries out the work and how are partners involved?

Tai Van is responsible for scoping and technical delivery of Vanguard's work package. Additional needs are identified according to the installation and schedule, then partners and responsibilities are specified in the proposal. SwissMecanyx provides the agreed parts and mechanical support; Vanguard remains the sole contractor and carries the client warranty for that scope. Heavy electrical distribution, connections and panel manufacturing are only included after assessment and explicit agreement.

How does an energy efficiency project with you actually start?

It always starts with measurement. Electrical, thermal and fluid metering and sub-metering, sometimes down to machine level, followed by analysis of the data already on site (historian, BMS, SCADA) before installing anything. Savings are identified through measurement and costed before any work is committed to.

Are you ISO 50001 certified, or can you get us certified?

No, we do not issue ISO 50001 certification, that is not what we do. Our approach is compatible with the standard: measurement, analysis, an action plan and long-term follow-up all follow the same logic. If your certification process runs through an external body, our work feeds that file but does not replace it.

What's the typical payback period for an energy project?

There is no generic figure that holds across every site. Potential savings depend on equipment condition, production and actual use. We establish a baseline, then cost each action before work starts. Results remain tied to the scope and operating conditions in which they were measured.

Do you only work on HVAC, or also on process equipment?

HVAC and utilities optimisation can be part of the scope, while metering and analysis can also cover electricity, heat, fluids and process equipment according to the accessible data.

We already have a historian or a BMS, do we need a new system installed?

Not necessarily. We first analyse the data already on site, historian, BMS or SCADA, before installing anything. Depending on what that data already shows, metering and EMS supervision fill the blind spots rather than replace what is already there.

Who uses the dashboards once the system is in place, just management?

The real-time supervision (EMS) dashboards are built to be usable by teams on the ground, not only by management. Long-term follow-up is provided after commissioning to check the measured gain holds once the teams have moved on.
